Fluoropolymers are remarkably high-performance plastics that combine heat resistance, cold resistance, chemical resistance, flame retardancy, and electrical insulation. There are many types, such as ETFE and PTFE, and they support a wide range of industries, including automotive, semiconductors, medical, food, and chemicals.
Fluon® is AGC’s fluoropolymer brand, backed by world-class technical expertise and production capabilities, with “Fluon® ETFE” standing out as a particularly dominant product.
“Fluon® ETFE” is AGC’s flagship product, which the company successfully mass-produced and launched globally for the first time in 1972, marking its 50th anniversary this year.
■The exhibition features the 50-year history of the fluoropolymer "Fluon®" as well as an art installation by Kengo Kuma

During his graduate studies, he crossed the Sahara Desert in Africa to conduct research on villages, where he became aware of the beauty and power of these communities. Aiming to create architecture that blends into the local environment and culture, he proposes gentle, soft designs on a human scale. Furthermore, through the exploration of new materials to replace concrete and steel, he is pursuing the future of architecture in a post-industrial society.
This exhibition traces the 50-year history of Fluon®, the fluoropolymer that supports various industries worldwide, and showcases the diverse potential applications of fluoropolymers. Furthermore, the exhibition highlights efforts to establish a circular economy scheme for fluoropolymers—derived from fluorite—with an eye toward the future.
