AGC provided consulting services for application development of Fluon® ETFE, the main product of AGC's Fluon® fluoropolymer brand. We produced a special exhibition to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Fluon®ETFE and coordinated application development through industry-academia collaboration.

AGC will hold a special exhibition "AGC | Fluon EXHIBITION 2022 OMOTESANDO / TOKYO - 50 years of Fluon® and the future of fluoropolymers. The 50-year history of Fluon® and the future of fluoropolymers. The exhibition was held at the Hidek 1896 flagship store.
FLUOROPOLYMERS ARE AMAZING HIGH-PERFORMANCE PLASTICS THAT COMBINE HEAT RESISTANCE, COLD RESISTANCE, CHEMICAL RESISTANCE, FLAME RESISTANCE, INSULATION, ETC. THERE ARE MANY TYPES OF FLUOROPOLYMERS SUCH AS ETFE AND PTFE, AND THEY SUPPORT MANY INDUSTRIES INCLUDING AUTOMOTIVE, SEMICONDUCTOR, MEDICAL, FOOD, AND CHEMICAL.
Fluon® is AGC's fluoropolymer brand with world-class technology and production capabilities, of which Fluon® ETFE has an overwhelming presence. Fluon® ETFE was AGC's first major product to be successfully mass-produced and marketed in the world in 1972, and celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2022.
This exhibition unraveled the 50-year history of Fluon® fluoropolymers, which support various industries around the world, and showcased the potential of fluoropolymers for a variety of applications. The exhibition also aimed to build a recycling scheme for fluoropolymers, which originate from fluorite, for the future. A special exhibition was held on "ukimori," an objet d'art created by world-renowned architect Kengo Kuma using Fluon® ETFE.

WE COORDINATED INDUSTRY-ACADEMIA COLLABORATION WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF TOKYO AND OTHER UNIVERSITIES TO DEVELOP APPLICATIONS FOR ETFE, WHICH HAS EXCELLENT PROPERTIES SUCH AS HIGH MECHANICAL STRENGTH, HEAT RESISTANCE, AND WEATHER RESISTANCE.
